Methodology & limitations

This tool is intended for community-level surveillance and hypothesis generation. It is not an OSHA compliance determination, an employer safety rating, or evidence that a cited employer violated a law.

What is included?

Public OSHA Form 300A summaries filed through the Injury Tracking Application for reporting years 2016–2025. The 2025 release is provisional and includes submissions received through March 15, 2026. Counts are based on the records published by OSHA, including zero-case submissions.

How is the metro defined?

CBSA 36540: Douglas, Sarpy, Cass, Saunders and Washington Counties in Nebraska, plus Pottawattamie, Mills and Harrison Counties in Iowa. Because OSHA publishes ZIP codes rather than counties, each ZIP Code Tabulation Area is assigned to the county containing its greatest land area. Border ZIP codes may be misclassified.

How are rates calculated?

TRIR = recordable cases × 200,000 ÷ reported hours. DART rate uses cases with days away, job restriction or transfer. Rate calculations include submissions reporting 500–8,760 hours per annual-average employee; all selected submissions remain in case counts. These dashboard rates are calculated from ITA submissions and are not BLS Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses estimates.

What are the main limitations?

ITA coverage depends on establishment size, industry and reporting requirements, which changed over time. Values are employer-reported and may contain errors or later amendments. Year-to-year changes can reflect reporting coverage as well as true changes in injury burden. Establishment totals should not be used without reviewing these limitations and the underlying OSHA record.
